NavyWhen we began to explore influences for Spring/Summer '23 we were drawn to the 1970s and the workwear donned by dutiful public servants here in the UK. Workwear has long since expanded into fashion, but the noble professions that provided employment for millions in the 70s on these isles feel under-represented. With that in mind we mainlined YouTube documentaries, marvelled at how much older than their age everyone dressed back then, and how cool the colour brown can look when worn the right way.
Like the similar Plaid Worker Jacket, this Navy version takes the uniforms of yesteryear and combines corduroy with cotton, a clash of the past and the present.
Whether it's the brutal late 70's borstal drama of Scum, or the much lighter prison tales of Porridge, the simplicity of a navy outfit was a great leveller, whether worn while paying back to society for crimes, or the altogether more wholesome jobs done by those in industry back then.
We designed some matching trousers to go with this outfit, and while you're more than welcome to pair them up, we don't demand it. This Worker Jacket is a year-round essential that can be worn at the height of summer when something smart is called for, yet also as a mid-layer when the wind begins to whip up a storm.
Constructed from 100% cotton, this quintessentially British workwear piece flies the flag for a time when the UK was still powered by elbow grease and plain old hard work.
